Fall Events 2013

posted Sep 20, 2013, 5:56 AM by Scott Lovell

Here are some upcoming events for Troop 433:

This weekend is the Youth Leadership Training class (YLT). It is an all-day class on Saturday September 21 at McFarlane Park on Paper Mill Road. It's a lot of fun and I want to encourage any boy who has not been to attend! There are still plenty of openings, and they will not turn you away if you show up Saturday morning with $25 in your Class-A uniform. Lunch is provided and more information can be found on our troop website.

Go to click Announcements and open the September Chicken Sheet link. Then read the flyer on page 23 of the document.

Water Sports 2:
We are going to Lake Allatoona on the weekend of September 27 for a fun weekend of swimming and boating. We will be working on the canoeing merit badge and small boat sailing. This is an easy dump-camping trip and adults are encouraged to attend. Please sign-up on the troop website's Trip Reservation Form. You know the drill.

Okefenokee Trip:
We have 2 spots left for the Okefenokee trip. This is the weekend of October 4 and is a rare opportunity to canoe through this famous swamp! Those going on this trip need to attend the Water Sports 2 trip to get training on advanced canoeing techniques.

LeConte Mountain Hike:
This trip is the weekend of November 15 to Gatlinburg Tennessee. We will stay in condos (easiest camping trip ever!) and hike up Mt. LeConte and back down in one day. Then we spend Saturday night enjoying pizza at a game-room and a visit to the "cheesy knife shop". Ask the boys who have been before, this is an unforgettable trip.

Make sure you sign up for all trips on our website. Click Trip Reservations on the left-hand menu and open the sign-up form. Add your first name and last initial to the trip you want to go on.

Discounts on Scout Gear

posted Jul 21, 2013, 12:51 PM by Website Troop433ga

I came across this discount from a small business whose owner supports scouting by offering a 10% discount to scouts and leaders, and a larger discount for larger group orders.

I have bought from them in the past.  Their gear is good.

-Hilary Thornton

You may want to mention that (I think, not positive) that both REI and Hodge Army Navy will give 10% discount for scouts – probably best to bring your id card and ask.

May Backpacking Trip

posted May 1, 2013, 8:43 AM by Scott Lovell

Our next hiking trip is to the Appalachian Trail. We will be starting at Woodys Gap and continuing our goal to hike all of the AT in Georgia!

Please sign up today! Go to our website and click Trip Reservations on the left-hand menu and open the reservation document. Add your First Name and Last Initial to the form.

This will be a great backpacking trip to the North Georgia Mountains and we should have excellent spring weather. Here are the coordinates of our starting point:

There is a parking lot here where we can leave the cars and start our hike on the AT. We will go up Saturday morning the 18th at 8AM, and come back Sunday the 19th around 2PM. This is a great beginner backpacking trip (only one night) and will help get our newer scouts familiar with backpacking.

Sign up today, there will be plenty of room on this trip for everyone!

2013 Summer Camp

posted Mar 5, 2013, 2:20 PM by Website Troop433ga

Camp Rainey Mountain
For all boys going to BSA Summer Camp, there is a Summer Camp Packing List under the Documents section on the Troop Website. Please review the packing list now so that you are not running around at the last minute trying to get things together. Summer Camp is only 6 weeks away!

Also, all boys going to Summer Camp must have a footlocker to keep all their belongings in. One that works very well is the plastic model (seen here at Walmart). It is lightweight and has wheels.

Take a look at the packing list and let me know if you have any questions. Remember, be prepared!

Departure Plan:
We meet on Saturday (June 15) at 1PM to load the trailer (at the front of the church). The boys bring their footlockers and a combination lock. We also load the other supplies for camp from the church into the trailer. We take care of all paperwork and permission forms. This process takes about an hour.

Then we leave for camp on Sunday (June 16) morning. We meet at the church at 9AM near the trailer and take care of any last-minute details before heading off to camp.
